Meet Jethro

It was my joy to get to spend three hours yesterday with a man that has been serving as a pastor longer than I have been alive. God has been at work in my life in ways that go beyond my capacity to understand. It was inspiring to share my experiences and have him explain to me in perfect detail what I was feeling, why I was feeling it, and what it is God is usually up to when He is at work the way He has been in me.

We all need people in our lives that can speak truth to us.

Moses had Jethro – his father-in-law. Jethro was able to speak truth into Moses’ life and help him understand how God could best be at work through Moses’ life.

Everybody needs to meet their Jethro. We are all on a journey, but we are not the first to take the path we are on. Others have gone before us and have seen what we will see. They have felt what we will feel. They have been where we are going. We can learn from them, if we will choose to.

Exodus 18:17–19 Moses’ father-in-law replied, “What you are doing is not good. 18 You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone. 19 Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people’s representative before God and bring their disputes to him.
